The Androstenedione test is used to help evaluate adrenal gland function; to detect adrenal tumors or cancers; to help determine the cause of male characteristics (virilization) in females or early puberty in boys; to evaluate androgen production and ovarian or testicular function; as well as to monitor the treatment for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH).
