Vitamin/Mineral Panel, LabCorp
Vitamin/Mineral panel:
- Zinc Serum
- Magnesium, RBC
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin B12 Plus Folate

The Zinc Serum Test measures zinc levels in the bloodstream to identify a potential nutrient deficiency. Zinc is a crucial nutrient that the body receives through diet and supplementation. It is involved in immune health, growth and development, and the synthesis of DNA. Zinc deficiency symptoms include weight loss, slow wounded healing, hair loss, decreased sense of smell and taste, loss of appetite, and loss of mental acuity.
The RBC Magnesium test is used in the evaluation of magnesium deficiency, which can produce neuromuscular disorders and may cause weakness, tremors, tetany, and convulsions. Elevated magnesium levels relate mostly to patients in renal failure. Marked increases may be found in such patients who take magnesium salts (i.e. antacids which contain magnesium).
The Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy Test measures for Vitamin D3 levels to identify a potential Vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is often considered the sunshine vitamin because it is produced when the skin is exposed to direct sunlight. Vitamin D performs many important functions, including helping the body absorb adequate levels of calcium and phosphorus. Due to lifestyle factors like the amount of time spent inside, many adults experience a Vitamin D deficiency. Symptoms of a deficiency include increased susceptibility to sickness, fatigue, aching bones, depression, and slowed healing, among others.
The Vitamin B12 Plus Folate Test can help diagnose central nervous system disorders, anemia, and issues with nutrient absorption. B12 and folic acid are important in maintaining muscle strength and energy levels, and B12 also plays an important role in maintaining your mood. The body doesn’t produce these nutrients, which means we have to obtain them through diet and supplementation. Low levels of B12 and folic acid can indicate anemia or problems absorbing the nutrients. It can also indicate neuropathy, or nerve disorders.
