C-Reactive Protein, Cardiac
LabCorp Test #: 120766, CPT: 86141
C-Reactive Protein (cCRP) is used as an aid in the identification of individuals who are at risk for future cardiovascular disease. When this test is used in conjunction with traditional clinical laboratory evaluation of acute coronary syndromes, cCRP may be useful as an independent maker of prognosis for recurrent events in patients with stable coronary disease or acute coronary syndrome. Please note: A standard CRP will determine if there is inflammation or infection somewhere in the body, but it will not specify the location. It will measure a protein created by the liver in response to acute or chronic inflammation. It has been shown to be non-predictive of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The more sensitive cCRP is more specific to vascular inflammation, which is the main cause of CVD. Do not have this test completed if you have an infection, since this may have an affect on the test result.
