Babesia microti, Real-time DNA PCR LabCorp

The Babesia microti, Real-time DNA PCR test is intended to detect Babesia microti and aid in the diagnosis of Babesia microti infection. Babesia microti is the primary etiologic agent of human Babesiosis in the United States. Babesiosis is the result of microscopic parasites infecting red blood cells. These microscopic parasites are spread by certain ticks. 

Typically, those with the Babesia infection are asymptomatic, although there may be treatments available for those who develop symptoms.
