The Factor V Leiden Mutation Analysis test is used to help identify those who have an increased risk of thrombosis, which can be caused by a variety of genetic and nongenetic factors. This test detects the factor VR506Q (Leiden) mutation which causes the increased risk for thrombosis. 

Contributing factors to an increased risk of venous thrombosis are age, surgical history, oral contraceptive usage, pregnancy, elevated homocysteine levels, or malignancy.
